SIT BACK AND WATCH THE WORLD EXPLODE
6 o'clock might not have been a good idea after all. It was raining, first off. Saturday night, you'd think any guy would have been much more..... Awake. Not the case for this guy. Backing up a few hours: 3 o'clock, finishing up unpacking in his dorm with the roommate. 4 o'clock, he was attempting to study for his finals. 5 o'clock comes around, and he's dead asleep on the couch dorm, book and papers scattered on the floor. It wasn't until 5:30 he woke up to a tongue bath by his new - and currently unwanted Beagle, Fletch - and ran to clean up for the date. Upon getting out of the shower, he contemplated calling her and saying he was going to be late, but the 5:42 shining on his phone only put one idea into his mind: Challenge accepted.
So he threw on his clothes, glad that they were all clean still from the move, cologne, keys, wallet, phone. Check. Check. Check. He was out of there, and pulled up to her house at 5:59, barely made it. The rain had stopped, and looked like it was done for the night. Or, well at least he hoped. He unlocked his phone, dialing her number. "Get outta here!" He mumbled at the clouds through his car's window, his phone humming "rrrr. rrrr."

this is not what it is, only baby scars Not only was it the perfect time of year, it was her favorite. Although she wasn't exactly the strongest believer when it came to religion and little baby Jesus, the holiday was still a pleasurable event to enjoy in the idea that you appreciated friends and family alike. Whether it was that addicting scent of those classic tree-pine needles, or simply those outstanding, fluorescent lights dancing along rooftops - she was hooked on the season and all of it's humble greetings.
The day passed by faster than she guessed it would. It was fairly simple: sleeping in, afternoon classes at Luxford, relaxing with her roommate at the dorm, and finally working her shift at Lazy Dog cafe. She generally kept her dating life on the down low, but somehow the word had slipped from friend to friend.. and practically every employee working that night with her knew of some-lucky-guy taking her somewhere special. You can imagine everyone was getting a kick out of it.. 'You'll grow tired of him before you even get a glance at the menu you're so picky!' Her eyes kept rolling. Well, maybe she was a little picky. She couldn't help the fact half the population was full of shitheads. ''Oooh, what big man is getting his charm on yoooouu?!' There was always the obnoxious kid who heard of the news last.
At least the gruesome night was almost over. And even though her little Lazy Dog family was picking on her - it was kind of funny. Reminded her that although they could be annoying as hell, they made the job worthwhile or at the very least bearable. It didn't help her nerves, though. They even noticed her odd mood! 'It's your eyes! They keep moving everywhere!' Was she awful at hiding her emotions, tonight especially? She typically guarded herself well without a problem. She wasn't exactly the easiest person to read. Then, one of the guy's slips her a word of advice - 'If you're nervous it means it isn't something stupid! It's something alright, damn girl! You get on that. But don't let hi-' On and on.. she didn't need to hear all the rest of the 'play safe' crap. She heard enough of it from her older brother and father. All this advice. She definitely felt the protective, obnoxious love from the team.
Then, after clocking out, she kind of wished the night in the Cafe went on a little longer. Talk about taking that time for granted. Why be nervous? 'Face it like a man!' She told herself. Not like the two hadn't kissed before. Maybe it was the fact it was much more forward now - it was a date. A legit one. That was weird.
Hopping in her car, rain instantly began pouring. What the hell? Close save , seeing as she didn't have that much time to get spiced up for the night. Speeding home, the clock was getting close to the time he said he would be picking her up. Her chest felt heavy until she sought out relief upon pulling into her dorm's parking spot. No Shaw to be seen. She ran up inside, jacket covering her hair, and sprinted into her room. She threw off her work clothes and changed into one of her flattering, dark black dresses. Along with black heels, turquoise earrings, and the typical rings she wore. Teeth scrubbed, breath refreshed, perfume Vera Wang Princess applied, and finally makeup updated. Oh, and a nice cardigan so she wouldn't freeze to death. If it wasn't a first date, and she had been dating Alex for a while (which was weird as hell to even think about let alone imagine) she would probably go in a big ass jacket and jeans. But! It wasn't the occasion! Mentally, that's what she was desiring to wear. To be kickback and comfortable. But, again, it wasn't appropriate. She could dream of one day being forever lazy. Never know where things might go.
Bzzzzt. Bzzzzt. There went her phone! Grabbing her purse, and tossing the necessities in it that she probably wouldn't even use, she clicked the answer button. Oh, iPhones. "Hi I'm running out!" She sounded breathless, she was running all over the place. Swinging open the door, she froze. "It's pouring. Shit. Don't laugh at me I look like an idiot. Bye." She hung up, and debated her life or death options - staring at the freezing rain. Maybe the jean and big ass jacket idea wasn't that bad right about now. Grabbing an umbrella next to the coat-rack, she popped it open, closed the dorm door, locked it, and headed down to Alex's truck. Frowning, and teeth chattering, she yanked open the truck's door and hopped inside. "Hi. I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead.. It's FREEZING.. where did the rain come from?!" She looked at him, and then let out a laugh - leaning against the cozy seat, soaking in the warmth inside the vehicle. She breathed, catching herself. "I'm sorry. How are you!" Head jerked back toward him. "Guessing this won't be an outside kind of thing hm.. "

SIT BACK AND WATCH THE WORLD EXPLODE
Obstacle number 1: The weather. Luckily, the rain was reducing to more of a sprinkling, but still, it didn't look good to Alex. His jaw moved as he thought, putting his elbow on the door's panel. Surely this wasn't going to ruin things, would it? This could be avoided, as long as it didn't worsen. The question was, would it? As the phone rr'd in connection, he minimized the call and loaded his weather app. Finally, he was beginning to see the up-side to the iphone other than games during airplane flights. 'Unable to load the information at this time.' Oh, well. That was short lived. He opened the internet browser. "Hi I'm running out!" He blinked at the unexpected blaring of her voice on speaker. "Ah, Arri-" "It's pouring. Shit. Don't laugh at me I look like an idiot." He suppressed a laugh. "Okay Sk-" "Bye." His eyebrows raised as the line went dead. The sudden silence of the phone left a weird ringing in his ears, but a goofy yet confused grin dimpling his face.
He lifted his gaze from the iphone to around the parking lot, ditching the plans of checking the weather. No sign of her yet. For some reason, that made his stomach sink in the slightest way - An excitement itched at him. He was actually taking this girl out, finally. After taking long enough! He'd taken his sweet time asking her out, yeah. But he really wanted to get to know her. And, from the last month of that, he could say she honestly was a good friend. Skyanna was practically one of the guys. Drank with the guys, joked around, played pool, wasn't afraid to get down and dirty and didn't complain about her appearance. A huge pet peeve - taking a girl out and watching her fidget with her makeup and hair the whole time. She wasn't like that. But, she was still very feminine. It was almost comical how she could be a total bro and still be a knockout in heels. Well, okay. Sky wasn't a bro. She still hung out with the guys, but you're not a Bro if another bro likes you. Rules are rules.
Last second check, he glanced in the rear view mirror. Nothing on his face, shaved - as abnormal as that was. Alex spun the steering wheel of the truck, going over the plans again in his head. Luckily, things like dates didn't normally get this guy nervous. He'd taken plenty of girls out. Unforunately though, Skyanna wasn't like any of them. So, that excitement did mix with a little bit of nerves, but it wasn't enough to throw him off. He just knew she had a certain expectation, and the nerves were hoping if he could meet them - friends, they worked. Dating was a whole new game.
He faced the truck so that they could just drive out of the dorm parking lot when she got in, and so the passenger was closest to her side. He looked over to the passenger seat, a bouncing umbrella caught his eye, and he saw her: filled-out classic black dress, jacket (as if Alex knew the term "cardigan"...) long legs striding quickly on black heels. He actually paused a second, goofy grin returning somewhat as she trotted frustrated towards his truck. The problem with her outfit hadn't even hit him. Problem? Damn there was no problem with that. She looked fucking sublime.
He reached over the seat, to pop the door open to make it easier for her, but his hand stopped half-way. On the seat, a big note was written "GOOD LUCK BUDDY!!!! WRAP IT BEFORE YOU TAP IT!!!!! - Jake" with a big ass smiley, and a condom taped to it. His eyes widened, normally would have laughed at the sign, but his girl was seconds from opening the door. He grabbed the paper, crumpling it up and tossing it in the back, just in time for her to be climbing into the truck. "'Ay, Catwoman." He said, toying around with one of the more frequent nicknames he had for her. "Hi. I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead.. It's FREEZING.. where did the rain come from?!" She said, disregarding the nickname - she was probably used to them by now. "Ah, sorry, forgot." He turned on the heat and the seat warmer, remembering suddenly that he was one of the few people in the world who didn't actually get cold.
He began driving, pulling out of the parking lot. "Well, I kinda got 'ya the rain as an early Christmas gift. Sorry, I thought you were into sucky weather." He teased, casually. The way he said it, if you didn't know him, you'd think he was serious. "'m awesome, I'm goin' on a date tonight. What about you?" Another joke, but her head suddenly whipped towards him, big eyes staring him down. Well, not in a mean way. But were those big eyes expressive, or what? "Guessing this won't be an outside kind of thing hm.. " "..Ah shit!" He exclaimed. The weather was a burden on his plans, yeah, but that was only obstacle numero uno.
Obstacle number 2: Sky's outfit. Weird to say, but the date might have worked well if she had come in what he assumed she'd be wearing, jeans and a jacket or something, since it was raining and shit.. Oh but no. Somehow, though, it didn't much bother him that she was in a dress.... "Well... There's gonna be a change of plans. But, it'll be just as awesome." He said, almost mumbling. See, the thing was, he had planned just going to the ice-skating rink that opened out-doors during the Winter. Artificial Ice, all that. However, not only was the weather not permitting it, Sky's outfit was preventing his plans. Oh, no, it wasn't because a dress and an ice rink were bad together. It went deeper than that. Because, the way she was dressed, only one word came to mind: Sophisticated. And, Ice-Skating and macking on those cheap-but-addicting pretzels - that wasn't exactly sophisticated. She'd upped the ante - the fact that she was probably expecting a nice candle-lit petty lil snob-filled restaurant had just dawned on him. So, admitting that he was going to take her to something as lowly as an ice rink of their first date was suddenly out of the question. He couldn't help but feel somewhat embarrassed at himself for letting himself get comfy enough to not think twice about how he treated her.
As quickly as his first idea had left him, though, a new one formed. "Ya like seafood, right?" He asked, pulling onto the freeway, and heading towards the beach. He tampered with his phone while he drove, yet tried to make it discreet as possible so it didn't look like he was chatting it up with some other people. He'd never been more thankful for learning to surf than that moment - the water sport had introduced him to so many strange people, one of them being a chef at a nearby High-End Restaurants. A few exchanged texts, and he was good to go. "Didn't keep ya waitin', did I?" he asked, glancing over at her finally, going from road, to phone, to her. It wasn't easy to balance out. "I think you'll like this place, but 'm kinda nervous 'bout taking you in. Scared you'll snap a few guy's necks with how you're lookin'."

alright, already, the show goes on all night 'til the morning, we dream so long Goosebumps raced up her thin legs as she shuddered at the warmth. Maybe the thick cardigan wouldn't be enough for the night. She should have gone with some sort of button up coat, or a scarf, at least. Hopefully the event would be in doors due to the rain. Her brow furrowed for a moment, after she had settled in the rumbling truck. "What'd you throw back there?!" Her head jerked toward the back seat - but she was unable to catch whatever it was due to the dim lighting within the car. The approaching winter solstice was certainly earning its classic middle december stage - longer, darker hours. "'Ay, Catwoman." She didn't really have a comeback for that one, so she let the comment pass her by.
Rubbing her cold palms together to stimulate warmth, she breathed hot air into them - hands hovering over her mouth. Her eyes were fixated at the road ahead as they began pulling out. "Ah, sorry, forgot." "Uh.. forgot? Oh yeah, cause there's a light sprinkle outside, Alex.." It was pouring, actually. The thick rain poured across the windshield - the wipers going estatic to finally be of use. "Well, I kinda got 'ya the rain as an early Christmas gift. Sorry, I thought you were into sucky weather." "Always the explanation.. Yeah, hits the spot." Her lips broke into a smile and she shook her head, watching the rain drops race past her window. Something she definitely enjoyed about Alex - it was easygoing, and they could toss sarcasm back and forth easily. Some guys took Skyanna's sass too personally, and, well.. you can guess where that went. "'m awesome, I'm goin' on a date tonight. What about you?" Her head dropped back against the seat and she let out one of her usual, loud laughs. "Chasing the storm that's about the cripple us.. Why, who's the lucky lady?" Her eyes danced in an eye-roll, but not in a rude way. "..Ah shit!" "..What? Did you hit a rabbit or something.. I did that last week.." Her bold, different colored eyes glanced at him for an answer. "Well... There's gonna be a change of plans. But, it'll be just as awesome." "We can't cook the rabbit?" She joked.
Leaning back against the seat again, and finally feeling warmed up, she wrapped herself in her dark cardigan with her arms crossed within it. Her eyes glued to the rain droplets racing past the window - increasing with speed and practically disappearing when they merged onto the freeway. "Ya like seafood, right?" "..I guess." Delayed answer. "I mean.." She sighed. "Rabbit would have been nice. Fresh and all.." Her lips broke into a joking smile again. "Noo, I kid, I kid. I love seafood! It's the best." Voice full of excitement. Her eyes wandered toward the glowing cell phone that practically screamed hello! from his side of the car. "Didn't keep ya waitin', did I?" "Not at all.. texting your mommy you finally got a date or what?" She wasn't mad by the texting, just curious. Plus, it was one more thing to get at him.
Sitting up in her seat as they approached their destination, her eager eyes tried to make way of where they were through the rain. "I think you'll like this place, but 'm kinda nervous 'bout taking you in. Scared you'll snap a few guy's necks with how you're lookin'." "What? Wh-.. Ooohoho. Right. Careful you don't do the same.. You know. Make the ladies trip. Our legs are fragile!" Threw it right back at him. But, in all, the compliment felt nice. He didn't spit it out in that cheesy, plain way most guys did - as if they were right out of a Bruno Mars song. God. "Where are we?"

some things are out of my hands
"Chasing the storm that's about the cripple us.. Why, who's the lucky lady?" She spoke back. He unintentionally laughed at her retort a dimple-exposing grin smeared across his face, head tilted back. He was not expecting her to be able to swing back his sarcastic remarks at almost every word she said. Most girls just giggled. 'Hee hee you're so funny.' 'Ha you're silly!' Or the occasional dumb blonde's '..Wait, are you serious?' closely followed with a very offended look on her face. But she was dishing them out as fast as he was. "Hyah. Yup, she's a professional eye-roller." His voice trailed in his comment, as he distractedly checked the street they were on to see if it was the correct street. He smoothly turned the wheel, driving along a coastal street. "We can't cook the rabbit?" "Well shit. I thought we'd do somethin' nice and go for Gopher or somethin', but hey, if you're cool with rabbit then.." There was a seriousness in his tone that could easily be mistaken for sincerity of the matter. "..What?! You'd rather a filthy rabbit, that you can find on what.. Any suburban lawn, over a fish?! I doubt you've ever even seen a fish." His eyes scanned the store-inhabited road, checking for his turn. "Not at all.. texting your mommy you finally got a date or what?" Again, he let out a laugh. "How'd ya know! Nah, last time she texted me asking whats up I told her I just got married. Think she takes me too seriously, we're not entirely on the same page." Sadly enough, it wasn't a joke. Again, he turned in, this time to a dirt parking lot - yet, valet was waiting for them.
The restaurant in front of them shown broad shining letters, "DUKES." The beach outlined behind it, though the whether didn't exactly permit a swim. "What? Wh-.. Ooohoho. Right. Careful you don't do the same.. You know. Make the ladies trip. Our legs are fragile!" Sky said, as they pulled into the parking lot. He skipped valet, and parked on his own, not really in the mood to be asked for his keys and all this by some weirdo with a mustache. "..I'm sure I ain't makin' any ladies trip tonight. Expect maybe you." He actually ended that joke with a laugh. He definitely wasn't cocky enough to be serious. He turned off the engine, and hopped out of the truck, grabbing her umbrella from between the seats and going around. He had it opened before he'd popped her door open. "We have arrived, ma'dame, may I lend you a hand?" He said, holding out his hand with a slight bow, mocking a butler. His voice even had a mimicked accent to it. He was joking, but he was serious about helping her down - the truck was higher off the ground, and she was in heels.

& death is at your doorstep & it will steal your innocence "..What?! You'd rather a filthy rabbit, that you can find on what.. Any suburban lawn, over a fish?! I doubt you've ever even seen a fish." Her brow instantly furrowed and she scoffed. "There is such thing as a rabbit being a DELICACY. Fish are for the weak. I eat them every morning. In fact, I see one flopping around next to me.." Her voice trailed off toward the end of her snarky remark - eyes widening like 'uh' and looking outside the window once again. She managed to throw that one back at him without smiling. She was progressing on this. The rain continued its gentle pit-pats on the hood of the truck - having calmed down from it's earlier rage. She loved that the rain decided to conveniently flip that switch when she happened to be jumping in the truck. "How'd ya know! Nah, last time she texted me asking whats up I told her I just got married. Think she takes me too seriously, we're not entirely on the same page." She turned her head to face him once again, head tilting in confusion. That wasn't sarcasm? "Uhh.. What." Her eyes glanced around for a moment, taking that in, a uncontrollable smile growing on her face. "Seriously?!" She laughed in the word. "That sucks! Sorry for laughing.. it's kind of funny.. I take it you aren't a momma's boy, then, huh.." She wasn't exactly a mother's little girl, either. Well, at least her joke picked up a little more information on the guy.
Once her eyes caught the glowing letters through the pouring rain - they lit up. Dukes was so good! "Nooo way. I love this place! Maybe they'll cook the rabbit for us. Free meal, fast food.. Instant." She sat up more in her seat, eager to get out.. even if it was still raining cats and dogs. "..I'm sure I ain't makin' any ladies trip tonight. Expect maybe you." Oh, and the comment came with that cute little laugh he usually gave out. Her head whipped quick to face him, eyes narrowing. "Watch yourself, buddy." And there he went, stealing her umbrella and hopping out of the car - which didn't really give her defiant stare much admiration. Her hazel eyes watched him march around the car as she unbuckled herself. Then the door popped open, the umbrella was up, and there the gentlemen was. "We have arrived, ma'dame, may I lend you a hand?" After a moment, a small smile grew on her face and she tilted her head, brows raised. "Why, yes, you may!" This was hilarious. She took his hand and carefully, well, somehow, made her way off the truck's huge step and eventually to the ground. She wobbled for a second, because it was slippery, but steadied herself soon enough. "Onward we goooo...?" She questioned playfully, still holding onto his hand - but bringing it down by their sides. She instantly noticed how rough, and much larger, his palms were in comparison to her's - not that she hadn't held his hand before, it just hadn't come to mind beforehand. Heels clicking ahead of Alex against the multicolored gravel, Sky tugged him onward - those eyes dancing their way back toward him. White smile breaking through rosy lipstick.
