( on and on, reckless abandon )s o m e t h i n g s • w r o n g • t h i s • i s • g o n n a • s h o c k • t h e m ______________________ "Well shiiiit. What am I going to do now?"
Jack, sitting with a small smile on her face stared at a small white and orange cat that sat on her bed, purring and laying down comfortably. It was only a kitten, barely 5 months old, alone in downtown Outlier. Jack had such a soft spot for animals, unable to leave the adorable cat alone. It was a male cat and he was just the cutest thing in the world. So naturally she picked him up an took him home with her. Unfortunately for her home was her dorm room and Luxford had a very strict not pet policy. But Jack was sneaky, she got the kittie in no problem and now had him laying on her bed sleeping. She was glad she saved the poor thing from a rough night out on the street, but she wasn't sure if she'd be able to keep the cat a secret from everyone else on the dorm. More specifically her room mate who was currently no where to be found. Jack didn't really know her too well yet, school having only just started. But she hoped she wouldn't freak out about Jack bringing a kitten to their room. It was just until she could figure out what to do with him. She didn't want to just give him to a shelter, he deserved better.
As she pet the kitten her mind drifted of to Gabrielle, wondering what the hell she would be doing on a day like today. It was one of the first chilly days of fall, Jack wearing skinny jeans, a black zip up hoodie and a pair of moccasins. Her messy red hair tied back into a pony tail she was spending the day more comfortable then not - it was rainy and icky out, thank god there were no classes for Jack today. She had an awesome schedule this year. She thought that Gabrielle might be out at class or something, but Jack didn't really know her schedule or what she did when she went out. Jack looking from the door back to the still nameless cat, Jack pondered about keeping it for a while. She really wanted to, but this is something she couldn't just do without her roommates permission. But she can definitely be forceful and persistent in an argument over it though. She is pretty stubborn when it comes to something she really cares about, and it was love at first sight with this kitten.
Pouting her lips as she pet him, Jack started to think of a name. He needed one after all, it'll help when she tries to convince Gabrielle to let her attempt to keep him. She'll take all the blame if it came down to it, she was sure she would have no problem. "Hmm. You're the luckiest cat ever to have found me, you know that punk?" she said with a smile, her bright eyes watching as he rolled over onto his back and started to play with her hand, clawing it and biting playfully. She let out a small laugh. "Lucky. the perfect name for you," she decided. Even though lucky was a better dogs name then a cat name Jack didn't care. She was different, her cat could be too. She laughed, making a quiet, playful 'aaahhh!' sound as she continued to play with the kitten, bringing in both hands now instead of one. She was enjoying herself, Jack loved cats.

Ooh you're a cool catComing on strong with all the chit chat - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The halls were crowded as the blue head of the Luxford school was making her way back to her room after a day with both work in a small pastry bakery and school. It was the start of a new school year and all the new girls seemed to be having their trouble finding their way around the place. It wasn't all that small after all. It was always amusing to sit down somewhere around campus and decide who's new and who's not just by looking at their faces. New people would love confused and look around panically – especially just before a class they could not find. All the older students just walked around with relaxed postures – and in large groups too. One thing Gabi had discovered was the tendency of splitting up in groups – especially the sophomore year. If you didn't belong in a group, you weren't that popular. Well, so the principal was, but Gabi had managed to be 'in' in 4 different groups in her sophomore year. No one seemed to mind that she some days spent time with one group and the other with another. People liked her anyway for her free mind and her easy going ways of talking to people, both familiar and strangers. It was a good quality to have in places like these. It was hard to get friends unless you did something for it. So many of the shy students spent all of their time in their rooms or the library. Gabi imagined that they must have been terribly lonely! Unless they all seemed to meet up at the library and conspire against the rest of the students and the world. Gabi wouldn't know.. She never really spent time in the large silent room full of books. She held nothing against reading, but she preferred doing it in her room with candles lit, music playing in the background and a nice cup of coffee of cocoa next to her. That was her way of having a cozy alone-time with a good book. She didn't read crime novels as many other 'adults'. She enjoyed her fantasy novel or literature about interesting historic events or social forms. She had once read a book – an atlas so to speak – about the lost cities of the world. It was very interesting to read about their location, characteristics, society, architecture and so on. She still had that book in her bookshelf as well as books about the ancient Egypt, Cleopatra, Plato, Socrates, The Mayans, the Aztecs and a whole bunch of fantasy novels right beside them.
Gabi loved her job at the pastry shop. She spent most of her time out in the shop where she took orders and sold the cakes of all kinds to the customers. It was sort of like a little café, where people could sit down and have a piece of cake and a cup of coffee and tea. It wasn't busy all the time, so when the café/shop was silent and empty, Gabi helped out with the cooking process together with a couple of highly educated and talented pastry cooks. She learned a lot from the experiences there. It had taught her to be good in the kitchen herself – beyond was she was before. She had always had talent and she knew how to manage in the kitchen from many good days with her brother, but recently she had learned tricks and more advanced cooking with these two elder women. They moved around the kitchen with grace and proffesionalism and afterwards they would sit down, smoke a cigarette outside and talk to Gabi. They were so nice! She liked them a lot and she liked all of their stories from their lives terribly much. A day was not complete without Helen (One of the ladies) talking about a former romance during her time with the hippies. It did not get much better than that! The job did take a lot of time and energy, but by the end of the day, Gabi couldn't complain about it, because it was just that amazing.
As Gabi moved through the door into the room, the first thing she saw was her new roomie and a cute, little kitten. Gabi smiled a little from the sight and dropped her bags on her bed before sitting down next to the red heads. She had really taken a liking to Jack, even though they did now know each other very well yet. The school had only just started and they hadn't had much time as roomies, but their talks before bedtime had been very entertaining and easy, so Gabi had decided to like this girl. ”Sooo.. I presume we're having a pet” she said with a smile on her lips and a neutral gaze locked on the little kitten, as she reached out and petted it for a few seconds. ”You know, that's a big step in our relationship” she said in false seriousity to Jack, while sending teasing glimpses with her eyes and a smile to match. It was of course only said in fun. A bit like when a couple decides to have a baby.

( black cat orange cat sittin' on a fence )a i n t • g o t • e n o u g h • d o u g h • t o • p a y • t h e • r e n t ______________________ The more Jack sat on her bed, playing carelessly with the kitty cat she had grown to love in such a short time, the more she got worried about how her roommate was going to react. Lets face it, Luxford was not pet friendly. Then again no college was, but she was sure that this fancy-pants college she was attending would throw a fit if they found out that Jack took it upon herself to bring this cat back to her dorm and take care of it. She giggled lightly, continuing to play with the energetic little one, Jack loving the fact that the kitten matched her hair. In her mind that was just fate saying that they were meant to be. But her roommate might not think so, she had no idea what Gabi's view on rules were, so she could very easily go get the dorm advisor for their floor and force Jack to put the cat back out on the street. She looked at the kitten with a frown on her face. "Don't worry Lucky, I wont let them take you from me. I'll go down swinging I swear it!" she said, putting her hand over her heart and putting her hand up, like she was pledging an oath. For Jack this was the most important oath she could take. Her eyes glanced to the window for a moment, hearing the sound of light rain hitting the glass. "Oh hell no. There's no way I'm getting rid of you now," she nodded, continuing to play with the little kitten.
But her attention was drawn to the door when a familiar blue-haired girl entered. Jack blinked, standing to her feet and clearing her throat in preparation to defend in innocent animal from a life of eating mice and sleeping in trash cans. She waited for Gabi to say something, but she was quiet at first as she placed her things on her bed. Jack did notice her small smile however, a bit of hope coming to the redhead by the simple gesture. Upon hearing Gabi's next comments Jack literally squealed like a little girl, something that she did from time to time when she was excited. "THANKS MOM!" she said, clapping her hands together from excitement and immediately pouncing on Gabi with a hug because she was just so excited. "I promise to feed him and take care of him and walk him - wait. Scratch that last part. But I will take good care of him, scouts honor!" she told her, happy she didn't have to plead and beg Gabi to let her keep the little kitten. She grinned at her next comment. "Oh honey, I think we can handle the responsibility. I know it'll be hard to get by but I'll work extra shifts at the .. steel mill," Jack said in a dramatic tone, playing along with her roommates serious yet teasing tone. She couldn't keep it up for long though, laughing shortly after.
"Come meet the addition to our happy family," she nodded, walking over to her bed where Lucky was cleaning himself. "I named him Lucky .. but I don't mind renaming him. He has no idea what his name is yet anyways," she said, taking a seat on one side of him so Gabi could sit on the other. "I found him downtown in an alleyway. I didn't see any other kitties or the mother so I took him. I mean we match - how cute is that?" she said, a smile never leaving her lips as she scratched the kittens ears, he starting to purr as she did so. Jack then realize that the kitten probably hasn't eaten in a while and must be starving. And thirsty. She gave a pondering thought. "He needs food and stuff though - I didn't get to stop and pick them up on the way back. I'm pretty sure I would have been caught if I came in with a lump under my sweatshirt and a bag of catfood," she said, knowing exactly how to sneak food in here. Backpack for the win? Jack gave an innocent look. "Maybe you can stay with the kitty while I go to the store down the street to get the goods? You guys can get to know each other better!" she said enthusiastically, hoping she would say yes.

Ooh you're a cool catComing on strong with all the chit chat - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Watching how gently and loving Jack treated the little kitten had been part of what made Gabi decide that is was alright with a kitty. She could immediately see that it wasn't even a possibility to convince Jack to get rid of it, since the redhead was watching the tiny animal with a love that Gabi hadn't seen for years. Gabi had never been the owner of a pet before; not even once! Obviously she had no idea how to take care of a cat then, but she presumed that she would just have to make that sacrifice for Jack's sake and learn how to so. The happy reaction from Jack made the insecurities of this deal disappear completely and Gabi laughed as she hugged Jack back. ”Auch.. I think you just made my eardrum burst.” she laughed teasingly and ruffled up the red locks of hair before letting go of the redhead. ”Good! 'Cuz I have absolutely no idea how to take care of animals. I've never had one myself. My mother always said that she didn't want her floors and furniture ruined by a cat or dog, and I didn't want something as silly as a fish.” Gabi said and arched an eyebrow at her as she told the girl more about the her past. They had never really talked much about their background stories but every once in a while a little fragment would sneak into their conversations. This was one of those times.
When she pretended to work at a steel mill, Jack caused a laughter dropping sweetly from Gabi's soft lips. ”Oh honey, don't overburden yourself! The steel mill is such a rough place.” Gabi played along in a teasingly concerned tone of voice as she stroke Jack's upper arm like a real concerned friend. However, like Jack's mask didn't work for long, neither did Gabi's. She broke into laughter again and laughed alongside with Jack. They were just that crazy the two of them. It was an appreciated friendship really. Gabi had needed someone to play around with and pull pranks on other people with; and here Jack was. The perfect friend for fulfilling those “needs”. They had their share of fun on different occasions, and not one of their pranks pulled on other people were regretted. No, Gabi even enjoyed being remembered as part of the Dangerous Duo – whom most Balston's seemed to fear. And with good reason, since you never quite knew, what these girls were up to next. It was mostly Jack being the brain behind the pranks and for that, Gabi admired her. Someone with that sort of creativity was bound to be an interesting person, and Jack sure fulfilled that part too. It didn't get much better. ”Besides, if you work more, I need to take care of the kitten... And then it would die, since I'm so terribly hopeless with animals. We wouldn't want that, would we?” she said with a nod and winked at the red head. ”You can be a stay-at-home-dad though! Do some laundry, cleaning and cooking too now you're at it, right?” Gabi added with a teasing glimpse in her eyes, throwing all the chores at Jack and not giving her time to reply before saying: ”Good, that's a deal.”
”Hey little purrything.” Gabi greeted the kitten with a giggle, as she carefully ran a couple of fingers through its red fur. She tilted her head slightly to the side in order to watch the kitten a bit more in detail instead of just seeing its back. She couldn't help herself but half fall in love with those big eyes and the tiny little nose. It was so cute. ”I think Lucky is a superb name. He is lucky that a crazy lady found him in the alley.” Gabi said, removing her gaze from the kitten and placing it on Jack instead, smilingly, before stretching her long legs out and laying down in the bed, eyes on the kitten once more. She was watching the color of the fur and compared it to the red hair of Jack, when the redhead mentioned it. ”Very cute indeed. Though, I don't think it is the exact same color. Maybe we should dye his fur?” she said; of course joking. Gabi wouldn't be able to make herself dye an animal's fur under any circumstances and surely not this cute little beast in front of her. ”Nah, no one would have suspected anything if you did that.” she said ironically and with a glimpse in the eyes. ”Go and get the stuff for it.. And while you're at it: Will you buy some milk too, now you're at it? I brought home a little something from work. Can you say cheesecake?” she said innocently and wiggled her eyebrows. It had been the most perfect cheesecake, Gabi had ever made and she had to share it with Jack. Hence the cake in Gabi's bag, in which she kept her phone, keys, wallet and now a cake... A good cake.. Nom nom nom xD

( black cat orange cat sittin' on a fence )a i n t • g o t • e n o u g h • d o u g h • t o • p a y • t h e • r e n t ______________________ Jack only grinned at her newly ruffled hair, the action something that her father use to do to her all the time. Only back in the day she was blond, but that was besides the point. She was somewhat surprised when Gab admitted to never actually owning an animal before, Jack never going without one until she got to school. She loved animals a lot more than she lets others believe. It was like a big whole was put in her heart when she had to go without one, but once she spotted Lucky on the street it was love at first sight. Jack could understand the point of not having animals though - they are a handful and can get messy. But cats a pretty self-suffienct, give them food water and a liter box and they'll be good to go for a while. "Don't worry, He'll be easy to take care of I promise. I'll even teach you everything I know about taking care of a cat. I'm a freakin' pro," she said with a light shrug, a smile not fading from her lips as she spoke. She was so happy.
Jack tried very hard to keep her laughter suppressed to go along with her and Gab's joke, but it was getting harder and harder with each passing moment. but she kept up the best she could, going along with everything she said. She nodded, biting her bottom lip to make sure that her laughter was suppressed. "I don't know darling. You know I'm a horrible cook - but I will do what I have to for the sake of our child!" she said, grabbing Gab dramatically and looking to the kitten. "He has your whiskers," she said softly, as if they were admiring their own child. She chuckle a bit under her breath, sighing dramatically for effect. This rocked. Not only did Jack now have an awesome cat to play with while she was trying to study - the perfect distraction - but she also had a roommate who was ok with it. And easy to joke around with. It was a win win situation for Jack - she always considered herself a lucky gal, but this school year she hit the jackpot. She led Gab over to the bed and took a seat, watching as she examined Lucky more closely.
"I thought so too. And that is Crazy Cat lady, thank you," she corrected Gab, grinning a bit at the comment. Jack was well aware that she was going to be that woman, you know the one to own a million cats and call them her children? Yeah, that lady. She was fine with this, knowing that she probably wasn't going to find true love again and get married, she would rather die with a shit load of cats then die alone. Jack grinned a bit, watching as gab laid down, her hands touching petting the kitten once more. "You know you can actually do that? I've seen people dye the hair of their cats and dogs before .. but I think he is beautiful just the way he is, right lucky?" Jack said, giving a smoochy face as she leaned into the kitty, kissing him gently on the head. "Besides, I think i'd be easier to dye my hair to match him," she said, giving it a serious thought. She wasn't a fan of white though. She bounced up off her bed when Gab said it was ok for JAck to go and get what she needed for the kitten, She clapping happily as she did so. "Excellent! you rock!" she said, leaning over an placing a kiss on gab's cheek - it was innocent - and grabbing her coat, getting ready to go. "You made cheesecake?" Jack asked, looking at her in disbelief. "I freaking love you," she said happily, grabbing her back pack an placing it over her shoulders. "I'll be back shortly!" Jack said, exiting the room - but not before giving her little kitten a kiss on the head head first.
___________________
Jack arrived back at the dorm about an hour later, a half gallon of milk in her hand (because a gallon wouldn't fit in their fridge) and a shocked expression on her face. She leaned up against the door to their dorm room, soaking wet from the pouring rain and looked at Gab. "You wont believe what just fucking happened," she said, dropping to her butt and sitting by the door. Before Gab could really ask what Jack just started to speak. "I was at the store, minding my own god damn business when I heard some guy screaming in front of the store" she said, throwing her hands up in the air in disbelief. "I was in the back of the store so I peeked my head around one of the aisle to see a man with a gun came in and started to rob the place!" Jack said, sighing a bit and pushing a piece of wet hair from her eyes. "I KID YOU NOT. THIS SHIT ONLY HAPPENS TO ME," Jack spoke, throwing her hands around as if this had been the worst day ever. "So I shoved everything in my backpack and got the fuck out of there through the back door and called the cops. I waited for them to get there and peaced out," she said, hitting her head against the back of the door. "I MEAN COME ON. WHAT THE FUCK MAN," she said in disbelief as she looked down to the half gallon of milk. "Im so stressed out because of that I could eat that entire cheesecake," she grinned a bit, she joking of course but none the less there was some truth behind it. She got to her feet and unzipped her bag, pulling out the things she got for the cat.
"None the less it was a success. And I didn't have to pay a dime for it," she said, wiggling a bit at her success.
