------------------------------ You were from a perfect world
As if I didn’t fit in enough, just in life I became a part of a job that seem so damn against women in it. My whole life I was known at that hippie child. The girl that didn’t know anything nor did anything. I was suppose to be all about peace and love. I was, sort of, cause I hated violence. But I didn’t run around nude screaming how we needed to stop something random. I didn’t do drugs, okay I smoked weed at times. Big deal, who cares. High school was hell so I left, therefore I had like no human connections what so ever. A little here and there but that was it. No one seem to like me, just for the fact that they didn’t know me or really understand me. They tossed me aside. Everyone did that, just tossed me aside.
Tattooing since I was about seventeen, I was determined to keep my art with me no matter what. Starting college, I stayed with it. It paid the bills and it made me happy. Win, win. One thing I would change was how the guys in the place treated. I was the bright eyed, bright hair little girl that worked there. They looked at me as if I had no talent. I had talent, more talent than them. Everyone that walked through the doors looked at me a tad unsure about me. I drew like pro and had an amazing eye for detail and a steady hand. My appearances caught everyone off and I just didn’t fit. First I was a girl. Second I was bright compared to the huge biker and wanna be rockers I worked with. Jokes were always made towards me and I always got the weird looks. At times, I got no work. Cause I was a hippie.
Being a slow day, I sat behind the counter with my sketch pad and pencil. Sitting back in the chair, I propped my feet on the desk and sat my pad on my thighs. My tri-colored hair down and flowing. Looking down, I kept my eyes on my paper blocking out the noise of the machines and the chatter. In my world I went. Hearing the open, I looked up some at the guy that walked in. “Hi, can we help you with anything?” I asked politely and sort of cheerful as my eyes went back to my drawing. This is what happened most of the time, I usually got mistaken as the shop manager or something because no one let me work.

------------------------------ AND I WILL JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. All I could say was that it was a hella long fucking day. And I was magically staying awake through it all. Then again, the more I thought about it the more I realized it was probably the cocaine that was talking. I wasn’t in withdrawals, but I was getting close to the whole peak of the high. So I was excited, but I needed to find something to do that I may or may not regret when it came to losing my high. Which, I went ahead and walked along the sidewalk toward the tattoo parlor.
it might have ended up being a stupid idea, but I was about to get a tattoo. I wanted something, but currently I was unsure as of what. Maybe some skull with wings on my shoulder blade. Or “never give in”, though giving in was something that I tended to do. Either way, I was in internal debate when I walked up to the parlor and stepped inside, taking a glance at the girl behind the counter. “Hey there, doll. I’d like to get a tattoo on my wrist. Are there any openings?” I asked calmly, clearing my rough voice before taking a look around at all the seats that were full. My dull gaze resided on the girl once more. It might have seemed like I was staring at her but I was lost in thought about what I wanted to get.
Leaning up against the counter some, I tilted my head slightly. A wave of long thick black hair fell and rested slightly on the counter, as I gazed upon my arms where there was one spot left open for a tattoo. “I’m thinking of getting a phrase there. Something like, ‘Never Give In’ or something else. No, wait..” I paused, with a small laugh. “Fuck, I can’t figure this shit out. Uhhh, I changed my mind. I’m going to get it on my forearm. And get the quote “with this hand I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle I will light your way through the darkness. With this ring…” I paused curiously, “what was it.. with this ring I ask you to be mine?” I paused, raising an eyebrow. “Some shit like that. You think you could help me out, hun?” I asked her, glancing quickly at her with my grey eyes before looking away. The makeup I wore made them stand out so much. Kind of part of the craziness I had that I loved.

------------------------------ You were from a perfect world
Looking up at the guy, my eyes glazed over him before the conclusion came to mind that he was probably one of the many guys that came in here. Letting my feet slide down onto the floor of the shop I listened as he talked. The first word that stuck was doll. Sure, the was first pet name. Wasn’t one often used towards me. So therefore I was semi okay. He was interesting to be honest. Listening to his words, I looked over at the full chairs and back up at him. It might have seem like I wasn’t paying attention to him, but I was. My ears caught everything it seem. Standing up, I placed my art pencil and the sketch of the dancing dead down on the counter. When he finally finished talking, I decided I would let myself speak.
“First, if you want to wait on the big bad guys over there,” I said nodding towards the other artist, “you’ll be waiting awhile. They are booked for the day.” Looking at him with my blue eyes, I crossed my arms some across my stomach. “You can let me do it, right now no wait.” Shrugging some, I lent against the counter looking over his forearm. “Just a quote you want? That’ll be easy. Just got to make sure the quote is right and what you want.” Looking up at him, I nodded some before standing up straight.

------------------------------ AND I WILL JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. I watched the girl as she seemed to ignore me. But I continued on. If she told me to repeat myself, simply enough I’d tell her to try listening in the first place. I wasn’t an angry person, but if I was pushed a weird way, I’d sound pissed off. But, she seemed to take in everything I said, well enough. She stood and set the drawing on the counter and I took a look down at it, tilting my head. It was simply gorgeous. I raised my eyebrow to her as I listened to her voice hit my ears once more. As I listened, I began to play with my lip rings flipping them back and forth. “First, if you want to wait for the big bad guys over there, you’ll be waiting awhile. They are booked for the day. You can let me do it, right now, no wait.” I just smiled slightly and nodded. “Just a quote you want? That’ll be easy. Just got to make sure the quote is right and what you want.”
I let a few moments of silence overtake me before I looked down at the drawing once more. “Actually.. I’d love it if you were to tattoo me. Just saying, but I fucking changed my mind again.” I lightly rubbed my arm with a small laugh emitted. “I don’t know how much room I have left that’s empty, but can I get what you were just sketching? That’s way more badass than any shit I was thinking of. Only.. maybe you could adjust it for me? Something like Joy and Sorrow. You know, happiness dancing with sadness, hand in hand?” I asked calmly, probably the most sure I had been in awhile. I offered her a smile as I looked up at her with a gentle shrug.

------------------------------ You were from a perfect world
“Can I get what you were just sketching…” was the only thing that caught my attention and stuck. Looking down at my sketch, I looked back up at him kind of in shock. There was part of me that wanted to scream yes and hug him over the counter. There was a voice inside that told me to stay calm and collected and be professional. To me, it was amazing for someone to want one of my art works. It was everything I was trying to accomplish. Out of the blue, without trying someone want a piece, that will be permeant. My heart was beating in excitement.
Nodding some to him, I picked up my pencil and looked down at the drawing. “Joy and sorrow you say,” tapping my pencil some I looked back up at him before something sort of clicked in my mind. Turning some of the dead into more lively. Adding little details that made them look happy compared to their dancing partners. Never once had I been put on the spot to change something on just a random little sketch. Just something that was passing my time. “What about that?” I asked looking back up at him. Shrugging some. “If you still want a quote, you could add it to it too.”

------------------------------ AND I WILL JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. Watching the girl, I noticed the change in her stature toward me. She seemed happier and easier to work with. I smiled to her gently and watched as she slightly adjusted the drawing. Asking me what I thought about that, I couldn’t help but to nod. “I love it!” I offered her a gentle grin before clearing my throat and leaning against the counter. “If you still want a quote, you could add it to it too.” I paused a moment. “well.. maybe I do. I think this fits the picture pretty well.. “We stopped checking for monsters under the bed when we realized they were inside us.”” I paused, content. My eyes never leaving the image she had drawn.
Feeling happy and excited for what I was going to get, I stood up straight and looked back up at the girl with the pink hair, smiling softly and playing with my lip ring back and forth. “Oh, by the way, I’m Kovu.” I said softly, feeling that a normal introduction would help smooth things out. I paused a second, looking over at the closest empty chair, feeling that it was her station. My excitement instantly grew, and you could tell. My eyes slightly narrowed in the excitement I felt, I raised my eyebrow slightly to her. “Fuck, now to find a spot.” I laughed, running a hand through my long black hair with a nervous smile.

------------------------------ You were from a perfect world
Giving him a small smile, I listened to the quote before sketching the words in a fancy yet rough script to blend into the picture. For once, I was over joyed to be doing a tattoo. I usually got the girly stuff, the little things, things no one wanted to do. For once, I had my own original idea. Something I was in love with, I was doing. “I’m Dazy. Nice to meet you.” Giving him a small smile once more. He looked just as excited as me, well that was a good thing. Placing my pencil down, I walked around the counter. Picking up the sketch pad. “Just follow me.” I stated softly before walking to the empty station. It felt like ages since I had sat down in my chair to do something.
Placing the pad down, I got everything ready before sitting back down into my chair. “Oh look guys Hippie finally got someone brave enough to let her actually tattoo them.” One of the guys seem to taut towards me. “Fuck yourself bruh.” I hissed over at him as I rolled my eyes. Usually it took a lot to piss me off. The guys in the shop did it in a second. They doubt my talent and my work. Typical boys it seem. Shaking my head, I pulled up my hair so it wouldn’t be in my way, as I looked over at Kovu. “Welcome to a day in my life. Just so you know, they probably will make comments the whole time I do your tattoo.”

------------------------------ AND I WILL JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. Nodding to her, I smiled and agreed quietly. Why was I being such a nice person? Oh yeah, because she was nice to me. That’s just what I did. If someone was nice to me, I’d be nice to them. I loved people. Just there was a certain type of them that I loved. I didn’t love every type of person; but the kind that accepted me was something that I was overly joyed with spending my time with. I took a deep breath and nodded to her; following her to the chair and sitting on the little pad you could sit on, while I waited for her to get stuff done. I slipped my shirt off. My abs were shown with tattoos of past years. I seemed happy, that is until I heard those rude comments.
“Oh look guys, Hippie finally got someone brave enough to let her actually tattoo them.” I slightly rolled my eyes and waited for her to say what she had to say before clearing my throat and speaking calmly, yet loud enough for the males of the shop to hear. “If you seriously doubt her ability to tattoo, then why let her tattoo in your shop? Obviously, she has talent. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be getting any money from the shit she’s done. So I wouldn’t say shit about her with a customer right here, otherwise you might not get a great name. But I know one thing for sure, this little Hippie will.” My words poured from my lips as I slightly lasped over into my Transylvania accent, before clearing my throat. My eyes stayed straight, not looking at any men nor the girl in front of me that I was becoming quite friendly and fond of.

------------------------------ You were from a perfect world
Someone actually stood up for me. It didn’t seem like much, but I got that sort of hate daily from the guys. I had the talent to more less do anything they didn’t want to do. Its not like they looked at my sketch pad and seen my detailed drawings of just random things. The tattoos I did around here was nothing to my full talent and I knew that. Didn’t pay it seem at times. The job didn’t pay either but it kept me in college, it keep money around. My aunt would give me anything but I wanted to be independent. Crazy of me. Smiling to myself, I looked up towards him. Debating rather I should tell him thanks or not. If it would make me seem crazy or not.
Pulling out a marker to free draw the tattoo, I tapped it against my knee before getting the guts to tell him thanks. “Thanks, I don’t think anyone sort of stood up to them guys for me.” I said with a small laugh to myself before uncapping the marker. Looking over back at the sketch and to the spot he wanted it. Getting the sizing right in my head before sketching it out quickly onto his skin. Looking at it, adding a few little things before saving the marker. “Looks good enough to become permeant?” I questioned softly before glancing back towards were the whispering about me was coming from. Shaking my head, I looked back at Kovu. Bad thing was, I knew I was a hippie child. A love child more less. Parents that were one with the earth. Just because I was that, didn’t mean I was everything like everyone thought I was.

------------------------------ AND I WILL JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. When she smiled at me, I couldn’t help but to grin back. Her words kind of shocked me, but I just shrugged. “That’s a shame. The thing that bothers me most is when people argue with others about random stuff not even worth it. Glad I could help, though. And you’re quite welcome, missy.” I smiled, laying back on the chair so my stomach was exposed where there was a spot big enough for the whole thing. I bit down on my lower lip and watched and felt her sketch out the little tattoo onto my skin so she could tattoo it out. I just shut my eyes slightly until she was done sketching and put the cap on.
Her words hit my ears, and I smiled lightly opening my eyes and letting my grey gaze travel down to the sketch. “Looks good enough to become permanent?” I just nodded and offered her a grin. “Hell yeah! Go for it, tiger.” I laughed before taking a deep breath and laying back again, prepared to hear the amazing hum of the tattoo machine before waiting for the slight amount of pain begin. I was prepared for it, though, so hopefully it wouldn’t be that great and unexpected of a surprise.

Laughing, I pulled on my gloves and opened the needle getting everything good to go. “ Tiger? I’ve been called everything else but never once tiger.” Smiling some, I started the gun, dipping it in the ink before starting to follow the lines I drew seconds ago. The humming of my gun was a sound that kept me sane and in my element it seem. “ You know the one thing I learned since I worked here, most guys are asses. Not offense to you or anything.” Shaking my head some, I watching the lines I moved over. Every little piece becoming permeant with the needle. “ They think they rule because they are so bad ass and shit. That I don’t know anything because I am just a bright haired hippie chid.” Wiping away the blood and ink with the white cloth, dipping the needle into ink once more.
My eyes studied every stroke I made with the tattoo gun. My artwork had to be perfect, if one little thing was wrong, everything was wrong. It was the same way when it came down to tattooing, if not even worst. “ So mister, tell me something about yourself since you know I am a hippie and all.” Looking up at him some, I went back to my work.

------------------------------ AND I WILL JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. I chewed on my lower lip playfully as I listened to her continue to talk. Slight nods here and there to let her know that I was paying attention. I smiled lightly to her about the hippie child and such. But then the conversation turned to me and I slightly shrugged without affecting her work before taking a deep breath. “Well, alright. Let’s see.. I grew up in Chicago. My family was a huge mob thing, and my parents always made me do the shit they didn’t want to. It was all bad. I finally got some sense and saved up money stealing from them and I just ran off. So that’s my story. A runaway.” I shrugged slightly with a small laugh. “Nothing interesting.” I said softly with a smile.
As time went by, the more numb I grew to the needle in my skin. Biting down on my lower lip out of habit, I waited until I was done. Once I was, I exhaled with slight relief. “I never thought you’d be done.” I offered her a playful wink before swinging my legs off the edge of the seat and standing up, looking down to see the tattoo upside down. It looked pretty great upside down. But I was sure it looked even better right side up.

------------------------------ YOU WERE FROM A PERFECT WORLD
Tattooing him, I listened to his story and laughed some. Not so much at his life, mainly for the he said it wasn’t interesting. To me that was interesting. More so compared to mine. After that, I didn’t say much. Just keep working, making everything person. When it came down to it I was a perfectionist. Reason why it sometimes took me forever to so something. To be honest, my sketch, well his now tattoo, wasn’t something I every planned on being a tattoo. Wasn’t sure if it was even drawn to be made into a tattoo. Mainly the details of every emotion how everything had its own expression to say. But the hell with it, I was always up for a challenge.
Done and over with it, I started to save away my things. “Well I am sorry its not my fault you wanted such a detailed tattoo.” Rolling my eyes jokingly, I gave a small smile his way. “Also I’m a perfectionist and don’t and refuse to do sloppy half ass work.” Handing him a small mirror, I locked away my things before taking my hair down, then turning my attention back to him. “Love it? Hate it? It’ll do in a rush?” I questioned sitting back some. “That tattoo might be worth something one day, hold onto it.” I grinned grabbing my sketch pad. Sighing my full name, Dazy Lou Danzing, at the bottom I wrote the date quickly. Looking up at him, I thought for a while, every art piece needed a name. Writing near the top left, Kovu, in my signature script, I closed the pad and sat it on my lap. Turning back to look at one of the guys looking over at me.

------------------------------ AND I WILL JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. Once the tattoo was pretty much done, I just grinned at her constantly. I absolutely loved the tattoo that she had just permanently inked into my skin. Her words hit my ears and I adverted my gaze from the ink to her face. “Love it, Hate it? It’ll do in a rush? That tattoo might be worth something one day, hold onto it.” I just laughed. “Getting a little confidence boost, are you? Would that be from my doing there, missy?” I winked at her playfully before she handed me the signed sketch and I nodded to her with a grin. “of course I love it. If I didn’t, we’d have some problem wouldn’t we?” I said softly before clearing my throat and looking down at the sketch, getting some money ready to pay her.
“Hey, you want to go get coffee sometime? You know, since I’m new here I need some friends. We got some friendship going on from this little tattoo experience, I think. Whattya say?” I offered her a gentle smile. My curiosity getting the best of me. This cocaine addiction had me say things before thinking about them. And as I processed the word in my head, I realized that it could have been taken in a different way than what I had meant. Maybe, just maybe, she may have thought that I was asking her on a date… when in reality I hadn’t. I played with my lipring with patience and curiosity.

------------------------------ YOU WERE FROM A PERFECT WORLD
Listening to him, I smiled and just nodded some. "Hey my confident is all I have, so a little boost from people help." My words were truthful, it was all I had. "We would be in a huge mess and I would refuse to cover it up too." Laughing, I messed with my hair. "But I am serious, my name is gonna be in lights one day, all because of the art like you have on you and in your hand."
Nodding yes to his question, I offered him a smile. "That would be nice. And didn't you know, tattoos just are the best way to start a friendship." Giving him a smile, I stood up and walked back over to the counter, saving my sketch pad into my bag, just for in case I would forget it. There was sketches in there that no one had ever seen or probably would never see. "People might think you are a little mmm crazy for having a friend like me."
