I hadn't been to a party in what really seemed like forever. Things kept happening and putting me in a shitty mood, so the last thing that people wanted was a bitchy Finnish girl on their ass. I didn't blame them, honestly. But as i stayed at home and noticed the costume i had picked out, i figured id better as well go. It took me little time to get there, but i did. Arriving and getting in dressed just like the Mad Hatter, which was a play on the name i went by. I was sure people would have thought id have gone as the Cheshire cat. But hey, that was too obvious. I made my way into the crowd, just nodding to the random guys who kept their eye on me. All in a matter of playfulness, as i made my way through the huge house to try and find some familiar faces.

High school party? Yeah, he was there. And, really not his choice to. Parties were cool and all, but he was way over high school. So why was he here? Well, obviously, this chick had older friends, because the "Charlotte" chick seemed the youngest. Hell, she didn't even look her age, after seeing her a few times. He hadn't bothered to talk to her, he was dragged here by friends. Why? He hadn't talked to his girl in a week, which in relationship time - that was a fuckin' long time. So, he hadn't been some depressed wreck. But it was bothering him like no other. Like some bug was biting his brain, and no matter how hard he itched his scalp, it just kept itching and biting. So, it was his friend's idea to get him out, drink all that, and see if they could get his mind off of Chess. Maybe he wasn't allowed to call her "his girl" anymore, really, but they hadn't broken up. Some sort of break, but there was no official break up. She was the only girl on his mind, even in a room full of girls barely dressed in "halloween costumes", but if he said her name, they said they'd ditch him. So, tonight, it was his night, and he was doing it his way. Forget her, he kept reminding himself. Wasn't as easy as it sounded, but with a couple of beers, he was beginning to block her out. Until, that was, he saw her out of the corner of his eye. He looked over quickly, but when he did, she was gone. No, that wasn't her, he was imagining things. Was he hallucinating?! If she was here, he'd know, she'd probably be the Cheshire cat, it was her signature thing. Which, was hidden by his sleeves. No longer his only tattoo, the skull behind his ear had begged to differ. He had to get his mind off of her. So, when an old friend came up smiling, he wasn't exactly going to turn down the offer of a drink, and within ten minutes, he had his arm around her, and they were swapping stories about sucky relationships (relationshits), and he was cracking up.

Now, in all honesty it wasn't my choice to not speak with Alex. He had this type of spell on me that no matter what, i thought about him. but when i did, the feeling of letting him down to better myself hurt me. but then again.. the arguments we got into hurt me more. I was a strong person, really i was. But i couldn't fight with Alex; he knew too much about me to actually go and not be hurt by things he said. that would be like poking an already angry bull and not expecting it to tear you down. But today i hadn't heard anything about him being here, and if he was, it was my chance to make things right. I stepped along the crowds while sometimes getting shoved into them by random people, which i wasn't going to lie that it was starting to piss me off, and headed toward the kitchen area to see what kind of shit i could get to drink now. On my way there, however, i glanced over to see Alex but with someone. I actually froze in place for a second, enough for a guy to bump into me forcefully and pretty much make me step back and feel a bit confused at first, but more so apologetic for stopping in front of him. You see, me being apologetic wasn't something that happened often, if at all. But here i was doing it. I pretty much was only telling him that i was fine and that it wasn't his fault, so that no one made a commotion about me being here. So when that span of what seemed like forever was over, i headed straight into the kitchen and snagged one of the bright red cups sitting on the counter that had just been filled and leaned against the counter top looking down a bit into what seemed like nothing.

Too many beers later, he found the girl's name was Harper, and damn, she was a doll. He talked with her, talking in her ear and her to him. Yeah, flirting drunkly. But it was his night to just forget it all. Eventually he had his arm around her waist, when he spotted her. Yeah, Chess. No, it couldn't be her, but wa-la. He caught the glint of those piercing eyes all the way across the room. Even drunk, he knew he was in deep shit. But what was the harm? He hadn't kissed Harper even, so this was nothing. "..Ayo, Chess!" He yelled, standing up. "One sec, cool?" He said, glancing back at Harper before ditching her without another word. Wasn't like he'd be right back, right? He followed Chess into the kitchen, where she was leaning against the counter. If he wasn't so drunk, he might have recognized the heart-wrenching pain, obvious. Silent at the party, and hurt. Sober, of course he would never have done this to her, and maybe would have responded more appropriately if he had. He loved her. But selfishly, the drinking was changing him. "Babe, what? C'mon what's going on, I tried calling you.." he said, first thing, walking up somewhat too close for the position they were in right now. The alcohol was distorting everything, even the fact that they hadn't spoken in a week.

My vision stayed glued to the counter as people bounded off around me, chatting with random new people or current flings. Of which, i basically kept my mind off of Alex best i could. Chewing on my lower lip, i just swirled the cup a bit, letting the amber liquid inside swirl over the white of the cup that was only half full. I could sense that Alex had seen me and well, when i straightened my posture and turned to get ready to leave, i faced up to him. Which, of course, he was drunk. But still, either way he shouldn't have thought of doing that. His words hit my ears and i just rolled my eyes slightly. "Babe, what? C'mon what's going on, i tried calling you.." He seemed to slur, my mind just taking in bits and pieces. "Nothing's wrong. And i never got anything." I said in a gentle emotionless tone. My eyes scanning over him before looking away to take a glance at other people, some guys of which were watching me in this outfit of mine which revealed a lot. Just the way i wanted it to, pretty much. I swirled the cup once more before lifting it to my lips and taking a sip, looking back at Alex for a brief second only to feel my stomach drop a grade lower than it was before.

Alex watched her face, looking for expression changes, give-aways. Obviously, she showed she wasn't exactly happy with the fact that he'd not called. He called her, yup. But, after two rings, he wussed out. At the time, he was still pissed, and only knew it would just be bad - his mood hadn't improved. Actually, it might have worsened without her. "Nothing's wrong? Bullshit." He felt his word tilt. He reached behind across from her, grabbing the counter she was leaning against. "You just didn't answer." He lied, alcohol cheering him on.

I took a sip from the drink, listening with boredom at his words while the alcohol burned sliding down my throat. I raised an eyebrow before hearing what words he actually said, hit my ears. "Nothings wrong? Bullshit. You just didn't answer." I shook my head, half tempted to actually laugh. But i didn't. Instead, i took a deep breath and leaned back against the counter some to stay some distance away from him. "I never got anything, Alex. you can check my phone if you still don't fucking believe me." I kept a straight face with him, watching him as he denied what i said. What a liar. If i never wanted to answer him, he would have known i would have owned up to it. I gave up on this because of the fact that he never tried anything, so what was the point of me trying when he gave up?
